Finishing over a moisture problem means redoing the basement later. So we start with water and air: grading and drainage outside, any active leaks, a vapor plan for the slab and walls, and ventilation. Then framing, then finishes. It takes more care up front, and it is the difference between a basement that stays dry and one you pay for twice.
Moisture and air first
We look at where water is getting in before anything else: gutters and grading, cracks, the sump, and whether the slab sweats. Rigid insulation and a vapor barrier go on the walls, framing is held off the concrete, and any bathroom or laundry gets real exhaust. Skipping this is why finished basements end up smelling like basements.
Egress, framing and systems
A bedroom down there needs an egress window by code, and we cut and install them. Walls are framed to the layout you want, then electrical, any plumbing for a bathroom or wet bar, and extending heat and cooling into the new rooms. Everything gets inspected before drywall closes it in.
Finishes
Drywall or a drop ceiling depending on how much access you want to what's above, flooring that handles a below grade room, lighting, trim, a bathroom, a bar. We handle the whole basement as one job so the finishes are planned around the mechanicals instead of fighting them.

Questions about basement finishing
Do I need an egress window?
If any of the new space is a bedroom, yes. Michigan code requires an egress window or door in a basement bedroom so there is a second way out. We install them as part of the job.
My basement gets damp. Can it still be finished?
Usually, but the moisture gets fixed first. That might be grading and gutters, sealing cracks, a sump, or wall and slab treatment. We tell you what we find before you commit to finishing over it.
Can you add a bathroom in the basement?
Yes. Depending on where the drain lines run it may need a pump system. We'll look at it during the estimate and price it either way.
What drives the cost?
Square footage, whether a bathroom is included, egress windows, ceiling height and how much moisture work is needed up front. The written itemized quote breaks it out so you can see what each piece costs.
Do you pull a permit?
Yes. Finished basements involve electrical, framing and often plumbing, all of which get inspected. We handle the permit and the inspections.
